Welcome to another edition of Songsalive! Songnotes > our newsletter for everything you need to know about the craft and business of songwriting.

Upcoming Songsalive! Featured Events

Are you a songwriter willing to take your songs to the next level? On Sunday July 21 at 12PM, Songsalive! continues their monthly songwriters' Song Critique Workshop series that is a 20-year happening, on the 3rd Sundays of the month in LOS ANGELES. Workshop your latest self-penned songs to be the best they can be and learn from our Master Speakers and each other, in our cool, supportive songwriting community monthly event. Hosted by Rik Lawrence, of Songsalive!, the largest global songwriters squad, the Songsalive! Workshops are open to all songwriters, composers, lyricists and musicians. First half song critique. Second half - we will be running a mini Songcamp where songwriters will pair up and try and write a song or at least a verse and a hook and present to rest of group. Come ready with note paper, pen and instruments for this fun collaborative workshop.

With Guest Speaker Alan Roy Scott on The Life of a Staff Writer

On Saturday July 27th at 6:30 PM, Songsalive! continues their monthly songwriter’s workshop series with guest speaker Alan Roy Scott. As a professional songwriter for over 25 years, his songs have been recorded by Celine Dion, Luther Vandross, Notorious B.I.G., Gloria Estefan, Cyndi Lauper, Patti LaBelle, Neville Bros. Roberta Flack, Cher, El DeBarge, Tiffany, Patti Austin, The Spinners, Oak Ridge Boys, Ricky Martin (Menudo), Anne Murray, Pointer Sisters, Sheena Easton, and Ray Charles among many. His work also has been featured in Films and TV shows such as “Top Gun”, “Coming To America”, “Karate Kid III,” “Sons of Anarchy,” “Summer School”, “Fame”, “Fame/LA”, “Santa Barbara”, “Guiding Light”, “Melrose Place”, & “Beverly Hills 90210” among others. He was an exclusive staff writer with EMI Music and Jobete Music (Motown) for a combined 11 years.

Alan’s topic: The Life of a Staff Writer. Going as pro as pro can be, in its own way. How to survive and prosper when they don't want the song great -- they want the song Tuesday.
